Lily's Playground Cupcakes

These cupcakes were made to celebrate the opening of Lily's Playground in the NRV Mall.  Lily is a beautiful little girl in our community with Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD).  You can learn more about MLD here: http://www.mldfoundation.org/

These cupcakes were made to blend with the playground's woodland theme, so I made suns, trees, flowers, and butterflies.  I chose suns because the sun represents the giver of life, trees and flowers to represent the circle and rebirth of life, and the butterfly because it represents the hope that one day there will be a cure for MLD.

 

Every cupcake was made of yellow cake and decorated with red, orange, green, lime green, yellow, teal, light blue, pink, or navy buttercream icing.  I believe the final cupcake count was 108 with 25 suns, 25 flowers, 25 trees, and 33 butterflies.  There is no cost for these cupcakes.  I donated them to Lily.     

Pumpkin Cake

Fall has arrived and with it all the wonderful tastes and smells of fall cooking including PUMPKIN!  This was my first attempt at a two layer pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing, and it was melt in your mouth good.  I suggest eating it warm with vanilla ice cream and apple cider.

The final cost of this cake was:

Cake with icing: $7.38

Wrapping and Plating: $4.88
Labor: $6.00 per hour x 1.25 hours = $7.50
Total: $19.76

Minecraft Cake

This cake was made for a young man's ninth birthday who loves Minecraft.  I have two nephews who also love Minecraft, so I was pretty excited to make this cake.  This was my first attempt at building layers on top of a cake which went pretty well.  This yellow sheet cake is decorated with lime green, green, and chocolate icing.  The real decorations though are the Minecraft characters the birthday boy made, so I really feel like he deserves the credit!  They were AMAZING!  The final cost of this cake
